UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United States late Saturday blocked approval of a U.N. Security Council statement calling for an immediate cease-fire in the Gaza Strip and southern Israel and expressing concern at the escalation of violence between Israel and Hamas. U.S. deputy ambassador Alejandro Wolff said the United States saw no prospect of Hamas abiding by last week's council call for an immediate end to the violence. He said, a new statement at this time "would not be adhered to and would have no underpinning for success, would not do credit to the council." In fact, since 1989 the USA has been the sole dissenting vote (out of five permanent member) against security council resolutions on 12 occasions out of 17 total instances when a permanent member dissented. Israel has refused to disarm despite violating 2 UN resolutions with respect to disarmament. I am not religious at all. I am speaking from an outsider point of view. I do not know what it is like to be a Jew having to be aware of the alarm all the time and having to live with rockets firing down on me all the time. I would not like it, to say the least. I do not expect the Israeli government to hold hands with Hamas, but if you are honest and look into your heart, you will see that Israel was the state that undermined the cease fire agreement first. I provided a link to the video where the lady from United nation confirmed with this fact. Hamas is despicable and irresponsible and criminal for firing rockets at innocent Israeli. I cannot imagine how it is to feel to live under the shadows of a suicide attack at every moment. But have you considered the fact that maybe Palestinians , people living in open prison, with no home to return to, babies born in an open prison, treated like a third class refugee from the day he was born to the day he died, what it is like to be a Palestinian living in Gaza? The Palestinians have suffered a lot , perhaps more than the Israeli, as a group of people. Do they really deserve all these air strikes and ground invasion? And most of all, do you think that maybe, if their grievances and social injustices are being handled a bit better by the Israeli government, the Palestinians would overturn the Hamas government they elected, out of decades of frustration and bitterness and hopelessness? You have to think about it. Israeli forces regularly confiscate private land; imprison individuals without process including children and physically abuse them under incarceration; demolish family homes; bulldoze orchards and crops; place entire towns under curfew; destroy shops and businesses; shoot, maim, and kill civilians and Palestinians are without power to stop any of it. annotation I maintained that Israel is on the wrong side, and should be condemned in the strongest sense. The international community has heard us, but unfortunately, as usual, it is the U.S that is holding us back.
