On the left is my new ETI-2 ebook reader from Filament Books. On the right is my trusty Palm M125 that I used as an ebook reader. They both do a good job, but there is just no comparison on readability. The ETI-2, for me, is much more readable than the M125, especially in the dark, although it is not as portable as the Palm.

One thing that I don't like about the ETI-2 is their choice of removable media. They chose to use the Smart Media family of memory cards that aren't even produced anymore. While not hard to find right now in eBay, the 128MB ones are kind of pricey. Unlike the Palm M125 which uses SD cards which are really cheap and you can still find them in stores. Mine has a 256MB card.

I do still have to finish "The Blog of War" that I purchased some months ago in ereader format.

I give the ETI-2 (which is the same as the Ebookwise ebook reader) two thumbs up.

This is my new ebook reader. I just got it a few weeks ago. It is a lot better than I thought it would be after reading a number of discouraging reviews. But I am very happy with it. Although I could use a 64mb smart media memory card so I could hold more than a few books.

So I was on the TTC subway Wednesday evening when I snapped this shot of a woman using an eBook reader. A rare site. Admittedly, this was a surreptitious shot, but I did strike up a conversation with her.

Some choice observations based on our conversation:

1) She works in publishing, so the eBooks her company uses saves a tonne of paper (500+ pages per manuscript).
2) You can't annotate on it, although you can book mark passages.
3) You can read the ebook for hours--it's totally like paper--no backlight needed.
4) You can magnify text, but it reflows the document. Consequently, it is difficult to have a conversation on the phone as reference points (pages / paragraphs) may vary based on magnification.
5) No wireless syncing (it is the Sony eBook Reader).

I was impressed at the eInk technology. It really did look like paper.

Just starting to get results from my book digitisation setup. Some more software tweaks and I should have a much faster e-book creator - I knew those dumbbells would come in handy!

This is the OEM cover (padded on the outside, gray flannelly-like softness on the inside covers) that comes with the Amazon Kindle. It also has a black elastic band to hold it closed (not shown).

When it's banded closed, it reminds me of my Moleskine notebook.

It's about the size of a trade paperback book, but with the SD card in it, it can hold up to 4,000 books! My book-laden nightstand and side table will thank me! Not to mention my suitcase when I go on vacation in two weeks!
